12th European Heart and Lung Transplant Games, Vichy, France, June 21st to 26th 2008

The Local Organizing Committee reports that all preparations and planning for the 12th European Heart and Lung Transplant Games in Vichy are well underway, on schedule and will be completed well on time for the opening ceremony. Fifteen European countries and Israel have confirmed their participation. Altogether between 500 and 600 participants are expected, with half that number Heart, Lung as well as Heart/Lung competitors, and the other half supporters and family members. It is particularly noteworthy that for the first time a Heart Transplant recipient from Slovakia will take part in the Games. Slovakia, with the support of EHLTF, is about to form a patient group for Heart and Lung Transplant recipients and hopefully this country will be a new EHLTF member in the foreseeable future. At present it is one of the main objectives of the European Federation to expand and to gain new members by establishing contacts with the respective patient groups in countries which are not yet EHLTF members, and to offer help in establishing patient groups where none exist. The European Heart and Lung Transplant Federation, the host town of Vichy in France and the organisers of the Games, the French Federation of Heart and Lung Transplant Associations, are looking forward to this great event and are convinced that this will be another excellent opportunity to promote Organ Donor awareness and an outstanding public demonstration of the benefits of Organ Donation and Transplantation.
