The EHLTF becomes partner in the BRIGHT Study

Beside renowned European medical universities and health institutions the EHLTF is the only European patient organisation which has become a partner in the BRIGHT Study (Building Research Initiative Group: adHerence in-Transplantation). This project is managed by Prof. Dr. Sabina De Geest, Faculty of Medicine, University of Basel, Switzerland and is supposed to be funded by the EU. The study is a 5 year study with 2 phases: Phase 1, a multi-centre international observational study, including 1600 patients from 40 transplant centres in 10 countries, will investigate which factors at the patient, provider, institutional, and policy levels affect self-management of medication taking. Phase 2 will develop a multi-dimensional, multi-level intervention (i.e., a web-based patient intervention, an adherence toolkit for healthcare providers, institutional guidelines for implementing a chronic illness management model, and a policy report outlining measures to support successful implementation of interventions at all levels). This innovative care model will be implemented and pilot tested in a mixed method study combining a cluster randomized controlled trial involving 8 European transplant centres and qualitative methods.
